ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 30, 2005) - STPR is held the first Friday and Saturday in June and is conducted this year by Finger Lakes STPR Motorsports, LLC. Members of the Finger Lakes Region SCCA, Inc. as a group created Finger Lakes STPR Motorsports for enthusiasts of Stage Rally to continue enjoying their passion. FL STPR Motorsports has joined with Rally America in cooperation with the Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Bureau of Forestry to present STPR June 3 and 4, 2005. Although FL STPR Motorsports is based in Rochester, New York, the volunteers to staff the rally come from all over the United States and Canada.
The course begins at The Green in Wellsboro and takes about 14 hours to complete. Competitors cover a total of 365 miles, including 150 competitive miles in 13 stages. Rally teams travel through two counties on the smooth and winding State Forest roads; at times bordering the famous "Grand Canyon of the East" located 10 miles west of Wellsboro. There are safe areas marked for spectators. Watching from any other areas will be discouraged. Due to unfortunate incidents in the past, the organizers have chosen to make this an alcohol free event. We also encourage you to read and understand the rules of the forest. They can be found at: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/frm.aspx .
New this year to STPR is the addition of Rally America as the sanctioning body. Insurance is also provided through Rally America as well as the top-level officials and the series structure of competition. This new structure is anticipated to bring more cars, more teams and more excitement to the event
As always, volunteers are needed to ensure the safety of spectators and competitors. We invite you to bring your special skills and become one of the 400 plus people that enjoy the sport, the competition, and the camaraderie of participation. With your registration and participation, you get a one-year membership to Rally America and the best seat in the house to watch. There are two great parties to be held at the Airport, commemorative gifts and more. Volunteers are needed for Spectator control, Stage workers, Service workers and Registration. We also need certified EMT’s, Paramedics and Medical personnel. If you have skills in towing we can use you too. Please visit www.stpr.org to register. Or you can call or fax Meridith Croucher, Administrative Chair for a registration packet at 315-331-5354.
