Wellsboro Rally for the Special Olympics

Proceeds will be donated to Tioga County Special Olympics

The 1997 Wellsboro Rally for the Special Olympics was successfully completed on Friday, June 6. 36 entrants encountered 21 timed passage controls on the 70 mile event. The event is typically described as challenging although it runs at CAS 36, with lots of turns, hills, and controls.

This is the eighth year of this event, which benefits the Special Olympics of Tioga County. For the seventh year, Michelin Tire has donated a set of 4 (street) tires for a raffle, won this year by Pat _____ (now if I could just find that scrap of paper) of Tunkhannock, PA. Trophies and door prizes were donated by area merchants.

The event raised about $2300, including the donation of their prize money by STPR overall winners Carl Merrill/Lance Smith. This first $2000 is to be matched, by the Mansfield PA Wal-Mart employees, for a total donation of over $4300.
